Community Yard Sale

I believe there is strength in numbers.

A few years ago, I went to a community yard sale in Adams Morgan. So many people showed up for this even with dreams of finding treasure among someone's trash. More recently, Brookland had a similar event sponsored by a real estate company. Again, many people showed up seeking a bargain.

I always thought it would be a great idea for Fort Lincoln to have a community yard sale. Given the structure of our community, I imagine it would be difficult for one household to have a yard sale. People from outside Fort Lincoln would have difficulty finding the house. Plus, advertising would be a hassle.

So, I think we should organize a community yard sale. Actually, I think we should have two: One in spring, relatively close to a bulk trash day, and one in fall. All we would have to do is pick a date and ask people who plan to participate to submit there address. Then, a listing of participating homes could be made and distributed to those visiting the yard sale.

I think it would be a great event and bring a lot of exposure to people who want to unload stuff, but don't live in the most ideal space for a yard sale. Plus, if we can sale things before bulk trash, that means less stuff we have to throw out. It would also be an opportunity to meet neighbors and get to know one another.

Let me know what you think about this.
